A cursed coastal town is plagued by the supernatural in Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay”. In our exclusive new teaser, a resident recalls the time she was stalked by the Boogeyman.
“Widow’s Bay” makes its global debut on April 29 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through June 17 on Apple TV, with a special two episode release on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 .
The series takes place in a “quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no wifi, spotty cellular reception, and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is.
“But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.”
Katie Dippold (2016’s Ghostbusters, Haunted Mansion) is the series’ creator, showrunner, and executive producer.
Watch the creepy-funny teaser below, which calls the original Halloween to mind as Kate O’Flynn’s character reveals a traumatic past with a stalking Boogeyman. Rhys’ character comically fumbles his response to the serious anecdote.
Expect a variety of horror influences on this series, especially Jaws, a film is as influenctial on “Widow’s Bay” as its creator, Dippold. “I’m obsessed with Jaws. Like I want to live there, which most people wouldn’t because there’s a shark that’s gonna kill you. But I want to be there,” Dippold told TechRadar of her series’ “big stew” of influences.
“Children of the Corn meets The Goonies” is how Rhys described the tone of this show.
Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey also star.
“Widow’s Bay“ is directed and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Hiro Murai (“Barry“, “Atlanta”). Murai helms five of the 10-episode season, in addition to directors Ti West (The X Trilogy, “Them”), Sam Donovan (“Severance”), and Andrew DeYoung (Friendship).
