April is firmly in the rearview, though Trace and I are still basking in the great conversations we had about Mexican sci-fi film The Untamed, 80s live-action/animation technical marvel Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and our pair of vampire films: Swedish teen coming of age ‘Let The Right One In and Western/Horror hybrid Near Dark.
Now it’s a new month, so we’re tackling screen life horror with Jane Schoenbrun’s brand new found footage film, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair (2021).
In the film, isolated and “always online” teenager Casey (newcomer Anna Cobb) becomes immersed in a role-playing horror game, wherein she begins to document the changes that may or may not be happening to her. Her increasingly erratic videos attract the attention of an older man, JLB (Michael J Rogers) who becomes obsessed with her safety, but may have nefarious intentions.
