‘Goodfellas’ and ‘Repo! The Genetic Opera’ Actor Paul Sorvino Has Passed Away at 83

More sad news today, as we’ve learned that veteran actor Paul Sorvino has passed away at the age of 83 from natural causes. Dee Dee Sorvino said in a statement shared by The Hollywood Reporter, “Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage.”

Paul Sorvino is perhaps most known for playing Paulie Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas back in 1990, and he also made a few stops in the horror genre over the years.

For starters, Paul Sorvino played Reverend Penny in Wes Craven’s TV movie Chiller back in 1985, and more recently he played Rotti Largo in 2008’s Repo! The Genetic Opera. Sorvino later reteamed with director Darren Lynn Bousman for short film The Devil’s Carnival in 2012 and feature film sequel Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival in 2016. In both he played the role of God.

Sorvino also played Mayor Palantine in 2012 TV movie Jersey Shore Shark Attack, and horror fans will also remember him as Col. Spears in Larry Cohen’s 1985 horror movie The Stuff.

Outside the horror genre, Paul Sorvino amassed over 170 credits in a career that spanned several decades, appearing in films including The Panic at Needle Park, The Gambler, Cruising, Reds, Dick Tracy, The Rocketeer, Nixon, Bulworth, Perfume, and The Cooler, and TV shows “We’ll Get By,” “Bert D’Angelo,” “The Oldest Rookie,” “Law & Order,” and “Godfather of Harlem.”

Paul Sorvino is survived by wife Dee Dee Sorvino and children Mira, Michael and Amanda.
