Brian Cox Joins ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 as The New York Ripper

Emmy winner Brian Cox (“Succession,” The Ring) will play The New York Ripper in “Dexter: Resurrection” Season 2.

Although no longer active, the serial killer who once terrorized the city found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree.

Deadline explains, “It was revealed in the Season 1 finale that Dexter Morgan had discovered the identity of the New York Ripper when he found a folder belonging to last season’s baddy, Leon Prater, emblazoned with the name ‘Don Frampt, New York Ripper.’ The folder was part of a stash that Dexter tucked into a duffel bag, not as mementos but as leads. So far, we know Dexter will find at least one from Prater’s batch of favorite killers.”

The first season of “Dexter: Resurrection” takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan took a bullet to the chest from his own son. He awakens from a coma to find Harrison gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right.

But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined — and that the only way out is together.

Michael C. Hall stars with Peter Dinklage, Jack Alcott, David Zayas, Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, and James Remar.

Those who survived last year’s mayhem are expected to return for Season 2, but plot details have yet to be revealed.

Original “Dexter” showrunner Clyde Phillips is back at the helm. He also executive produces with Hall, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean, and Katrina Mathewson. Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios produce.

“Dexter: Resurrection” premiered in July to 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days. It renewed for a second season later in the year, while prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” was cancelled.
