“Yellowjackets” Season 2 Teased by Showrunners; Harsh Winter Horrors Await

Before the hit series even wrapped its first season last year, Showtime had ordered up a second season of “Yellowjackets,” one of the rare shows to break through in the streaming era. The series was created by Ashley Lyle Bart Nickerson (“Narcos”), described as being “equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama.”

Viewers – including yours truly – were hooked on the many compelling mysteries of “Yellowjackets” last year, the series centered on a team of high school girls soccer players who survived a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness when they were teenagers. The first season jumped back and forth between past and present, leaving many stones unturned in regards to a harsh winter that plunged the survivors into cannibalistic horrors.

Chatting with Variety, the team promises “Yellowjackets” Season 2 will explore that “winter of their discontent,” suggesting we’re in store for an even more horrifying second season.

We are definitely re-visiting the winter storyline,” Ashley Lyle tells Variety. “We’ve been calling Season 2, ‘The Winter of Their Discontent.’

“We’ve been in the writers’ room for several months now, and we’re circling a late summer production start,” Lyle adds, indicating we may have to wait until 2023 for Season 2.

Stay tuned for more on “Yellowjackets” Season 2 as we learn it.

Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”

Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis star.
