A fresh take on Joe Dante’s cult classic starring Tom Hanks, Peacock’s “The ‘Burbs” premiered earlier this month, and it looks like it’s already a huge success for the streaming service.
Deadline reports this afternoon, “The suburban horror comedy has generated nearly 1B viewing minutes since premiering on February 8.” What exactly does that mean, you ask?
“The Keke Palmer-led comedy series ranked as Nielsen’s No. 2 streaming original during its first full week of availability from February 9 through 16,” Deadline’s report continues.
The outlet adds, “It had the highest Day 1 for a Peacock original ever, and the best launch day for any new streaming original series in 2026 based on minutes viewed, per Nielsen.”
Furthermore, “The ‘Burbs” has become “the top original scripted season ever on Peacock in terms of overall reach through the first nine days on the platform.”
The debut season ends with a cliffhanger tease that suggests a much large conspiracy afoot, with one main character’s fate left hanging in the balance, so it’s safe to say the creators are hoping for a second season. At this time, however, “The ‘Burbs” Season 2 hasn’t been ordered.
Set in present-day suburbia, Keke Palmer (Nope) and Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise) star as a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home.
Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light. New threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.
