Supernatural Franchise ‘Birds of the Soul’ to Shoot First 2 Films Back-to-Back

A new supernatural franchise titled Birds of the Soul is launching with two films being shot back-to-back, Deadline has learned.

Romanian filmmaker Constantin Popescu has signed on to direct both movies, with Just Entertainment and AiMation producing.

Set in the Carpathian Mountains in 1917, the first film follows a remote village gripped by unexplained events as wartime paranoia collides with ancient mythology and supernatural forces.

Birds of the Soul is designed as a grounded supernatural epic that explores faith, fear, and survival through a distinctly cinematic lens,” said P.J. Pettiett of Just Entertainment. “Constantin brings an extraordinary level of realism and atmosphere to this world, and we believe the franchise has the potential to resonate globally.”

“What drew me to the project was the opportunity to build something mythic and emotional within the reality of war,” Popescu added. “At its core, this is a story about humanity confronting forces it cannot fully understand.”

The first two Birds of the Soul films are slated to enter production in the Dominican Republic beginning in November.
