“Stranger Things 4” Will Provide Some Big Answers About the Show’s Overall Mythology

The upcoming “Stranger Things 4” is set to be massive in scope, the long delay resulting in a brand new season that will essentially be the length of TWO seasons in one fell swoop.

“Stranger Things” Season 4, in fact, will be broken up into two separate parts, with Vol. 1 premiering on May 27, 2022Vol. 2 will then arrive on Netflix on July 1, 2022.

In a new chat with Deadline this week, creators Matt and Ross Duffer give us some “Stranger Things 4″ teases, suggesting that some big answers are finally on the way.

“Back when we did Season 1, Netflix just kept going ‘Can you explain all this mythology to us?’ So we wrote this giant 20-page document, which talked about everything in terms of what was going on and what exactly the Upside Down was. And then each season we’re just sort of peeling back the layers of that onion, so to speak,” Ross Duffer explains.

He adds, “But this season, we really wanted to really get into it and [reveal] some of those answers. But to do that properly, we needed time, so it just became bigger and bigger.”

Ross Duffer also tells Deadline, “We didn’t know how big the season was going to get, and we didn’t even realize until we were about halfway through, just in terms of how much story that we wanted to tell this season. Really what it’s about is revelations, in that we really wanted to start giving the audience some answers.”

What we know of Season 4 thus far is that Hopper is still alive, “imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other.”

“Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything….”

“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more,” the Duffer Brothers had said back in February of last year.

Horror icon Robert Englund is playing Victor Creel in Season 4, a disturbed man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.
