SCREAMBOX Movies Took Home Five Fangoria Chainsaw Awards Last Night!

The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards 2023 streamed live on Shudder last night – if you missed the show, you can watch it right now! – honoring the best in horror from the past year.

While the Academy Awards may have ignored 2022’s best horror, including The Black Phone, Prey, and Nope, the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards once again served as horror’s own celebration of another incredible year for the genre. And Bloody Disgusting/Cinedigm are thrilled to report that our movies took home Chainsaw Awards in five different categories this year!

Damien Leone’s Terrifier 2 was the biggest winner of the night, winning a whopping four Chainsaw Awards. Horror fans selected Terrifier 2 as the Best Limited Release Movie of 2022, while the film also won for Best Makeup FX and Best Kill. The latter award was won for the gruesome bedroom kill of Allie, a new high water mark for practical gore effects.

Additionally, Terrifier 2 star Lauren LaVera was the first-ever recipient of the “Editor’s Eyeball Award” for her work as final girl Sienna in the slasher sequel. The brand new award was also won by Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks, the duo behind last year’s Alone With You.

Elsewhere during the ceremony, SCREAMBOX documentary Pennywise: The Story of It scared up the Best Documentary Feature award, which was accepted by co-directors John Campopiano (Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary) and Christopher Griffiths (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser), as well as producer Gary Smart.

We’d also like to give a shoutout to fellow SCREAMBOX documentary Living With Chucky, which was directed by Kyra Gardner and also scored a nomination for Best Documentary.
