‘Scream’ Is the Sharpest Fifth Entry In a Horror Franchise [Halloweenies Podcast]

“Something about this one just feels different…”

Indeed it does. That’s why your fellow Halloweenies have re-assembled in Woodsboro to slice and dice through the one we’ve all been waiting for: Scream, aka 5cream. So, delete your social media, tape over your camera phone, and head to the Murder Hospital with co-hosts Justin GerberMichael Roffman, Mike Vanderbilt, Dan Caffrey, and Mac Gerber.

In the first of two episodes dedicated to the fifth blockbuster, the gang discuss the passing of the torch to Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, debate whether this is the best fifth entry in a horror franchise, sift through the film’s unofficial soundtrack, and chart the family tree of screenwriter James Vanderbilt.

Stream the whole thing below or via iTunes/Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, RadioPublic, Acast, Google Podcasts, and RSS. Don’t go away, though, as the Halloweenies will return later this week to wrap up their discussion on 5cream by discussing the sick fucks behind the knife, the suspects in this go-around, the greatest kill, and more.

New to the Halloweenies? Catch up with the gang by revisiting their essential episodes on past franchises such as Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and this year’s Scream. In 2022, after they close out their fourth season in Woodsboro, the Halloweenies are heading into the Michigan woods for a groovy cabin trip. Hint, hint.

You can also become a member of their Patreon, The Rewind, for hilariously irreverent commentaries (e.g. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Gremlins, Child’s Play) and one-off deep dives on your favorite rentals (e.g. Saw, 28 Days Later, Manhunter, Near Dark). Each month promises something new and unexpected from the wildest corners of the genre.
