Production Begins on Universal’s ‘Renfield’ Starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula!

Universal Pictures has enlisted Nicolas Cage to play Count Dracula in the upcoming feature film Renfield, based on an original pitch from “The Walking Dead” creator Robert KirkmanChris McKay (The Tomorrow War) is directing the movie, with Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies, Mad Max: Fury Road) on board to star as the central character, Dracula’s henchman.

The film is said to be a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone,” and Universal has just announced this afternoon that production is now officially underway!

Check out the awesomely retro production logo below, which screams “1931.”

“The film centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).”

Nicolas Cage recently teased his Dracula in Renfield, noting that the character’s movements have been inspired by horror films including Ringu and even James Wan’s Malignant!

Ryan Ridley (“Rick and Morty”) wrote the script for Renfield.

The character was memorably played by Dwight Frye (below) in the 1931 Dracula.
