The Super Robot known as Voltron is headed back to the screen with a brand new live action movie, THR reports tonight, with the package reportedly “igniting a bidding war.”
THR details, “Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice) is attached to co-write and direct a Voltron live-action feature, a hot package that has engendered multiple offers.”
The studios that are part of this bidding war at the moment include Amazon, Universal, and Warner Bros., with Netflix reportedly not in the running at this time.
Ellen Shanman is co-writing the planned Voltron movie with Marshall Thurber.

Wikipedia explains, “Voltron is an animated television series franchise that features a team of five space explorers who pilot a giant Super Robot known as “Voltron”. Produced by Ted Koplar through his production company World Events Productions, Voltron was an adaptation of several Japanese anime television series from Toei Animation. The original television series aired in syndication from September 10, 1984, to November 18, 1985. Voltron: Defender of the Universe was the top-rated syndicated children’s show for two years during its original run, and it spawned three follow-up series, several comic books, and a line of toys.”
Most recently, new series “Voltron: Legendary Defender” (2016-2018) was a Netflix Original.
