‘Lisa Frankenstein’ – New Image Gives Closer Look at Central Lovebirds in ’80s Horror-Comedy

A fresh take on Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel is headed to the screen with Lisa Frankenstein, written by Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) and directed by Zelda Williams.

Empire Magazine has shared a new image from Lisa Frankenstein this morning, giving us closer look at gothic lovebirds Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”). The pair look worried but cozy.

Lisa Frankenstein comes to theaters on February 9, 2024.

Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room) also star in the horror-comedy.

In Lisa Frankenstein, “Set in 1989, the film follows an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”

Here’s the official plot synopsis: “A coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.”

Lisa Frankenstein is rated “PG-13” for…

“Violent content, bloody images, sexual material, language, sexual assault, teen drinking and drug content.”

Cody described the horror-comedy to Empire as a gender-flipped twist on Weird Science.

“It was funny to me how the whole Frankenstein narrative was co-opted in the ‘80s by movies like Weird Science where they were like, ‘What if we could create the perfect woman?’ You see that theme across genres, and I felt like nobody was making a ‘building a man’ movie except The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which I love, and which we reference in the film,” Cody told the outlet.

Diablo Cody will also produce the movie alongside Mason Novick. Expect to see more from Lisa Frankenstein as we get closer to its February release.
