‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Devours $18 Million in Thursday Night Previews

Released into theaters last night, Jurassic World Dominion is currently on track to have a massive Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom-sized opening weekend, thus far devouring $18 million in Thursday night previews here in the United States.

For the sake of comparison, Jurassic World made $18.5 million in Thursday previews back in 2015, while Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom gobbled up $15.3 million in Thursday previews. Both films went on to make well over $1 billion globally, with Jurassic World opening to $208.8 million domestically and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opening to $148 million domestically.

Variety reports that the trilogy-ending Jurassic World Dominion is “expected to generate $125 million in stateside ticket sales from 4,600 theaters” this weekend in North America.

Of course, there’s a good chance Jurassic World Dominion will make even more than $125 million this weekend, certainly if the Thursday night preview number is any indication.

One thing that could be working against Dominion, however, is the poor reception from critics. At this time, the new movie currently has a franchise-low 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.

From director Colin TrevorrowDominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
