Hugh Jackman and writer-director Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One, Pig) explore the myth and truth behind legends in a new featurette for The Death of Robin Hood.
“This movie feels very different from the rest of the Robin Hood legends,” Sarnoski explains. “It just has its own twist on it. Like, what if Robin was this bloodthirsty cutthroat? He comes from this violent, brutal, cold world where everyone you meet is probably trying to kill you.”
The dark reimagining of the classic folk tale will hit theaters on June 19 via A24.
In the film, “Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.”
Jodie Comer (28 Years Later), Bill Skarsgård (IT), Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”), and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) round out the cast.
Aaron Ryder & Andrew Swett of Ryder Picture Company produce alongside Alexander Black of Lyrical Media. Executive producers include Jackman, Sarnoski, Jon Rosenberg, Natalie Sellers, and Rama Gottumukkala.
The Death of Robin Hood is rated R for “strong bloody violence.”
