HBO Max Adapting Supernatural Comic “Dead Boy Detectives” from Neil Gaiman

From DC Comics, the “Dead Boy Detectives” comic series is the next to make its way onto the small screen, with HBO Max ordering up a series adaptation of the comic book tale.

The Wrap reports this afternoon that the upcoming eight-episode HBO Max series “follows a pair of ghostly detectives as they investigate murders related to the supernatural.”

George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as the main characters Edwin Payne (Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Revri), with Kassius Nelson playing Crystal Palace.

Created by writer Neil Gaiman and artists Matt Wagner and Malcolm Jones III, the “Dead Boy Detectives” characters first appeared in The Sandman #25 (April 1991).

These characters recently appeared in HBO Max’s “Doom Patrol.”

Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) wrote the pilot and will show-run. Jeremy Carver, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television are also on board.

“I’ve been obsessed with this comic for a long time, so it’s a true passion project,” Yockey said. “And Jeremy, Berlanti Productions, DC, WBTV, HBO Max — they’re all encouraging me to run with every wild, bizarre, and unsettling choice. The result is going to be really dark fun.”
