Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, director Sam Raimi’s first feature since 2013, releases in theaters this week. The MCU film promises to bring Sam Raimi’s flair for horror to the mix, with Kevin Feige even teasing how it’ll make Evil Dead II fans happy. Just how much the Doctor Strange sequel will venture into the genre remains to be seen, of course, but Raimi’s return to the director’s seat is cause for celebration regardless.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to Sam Raimi’s horror output both in front of and behind the camera. As always, here’s where you can stream these titles this week…

Intruder – AMC+, Pluto TV, Shudder, Tubi, Vudu

The overnight stock crew of a local grocery store finds themselves falling victim to an unseen killer in this highly infectious late ‘80s slasher. The deaths are delightfully gruesome and inventive; look for this killer to make excellent use of grocery store items as weapons. Frequent Raimi collaborator Scott Spiegel directed this bloody slasher, which means a lot of overlap with the Evil Dead II. That means putting Sam Raimi in front of the camera for a change, along with Ted Raimi and Evil Dead II’s Dan Hicks. Look for a cameo by Bruce Campbell as well!

Drag Me to Hell – Hulu

Loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) wants a promotion so severely that she ignores her instincts and the desperate pleas from elderly Sylvia Ganush (Lorna Raver) to extend her mortgage. It results in a curse that dooms Christine to three days of increasing supernatural torture by a Lamia and will end when she’s dragged to Hell. Drag Me to Hell showcases Raimi’s trademark blend of physical comedy and horror that builds to an unforgettable, polarizing ending that’ll leave you pondering the morality of it all.

The Gift – Epix, Paramount+, Prime Video

Written by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson, The Gift is a South Gothic supernatural murder mystery with an all-star cast. Cate Blanchett leads as a fortune teller whose clairvoyance comes in handy with a missing socialite. The cast, atmosphere, and Raimi’s direction keep this one engaging even when the whodunnit aspect becomes predictable.

The Evil Dead – AMC+, Pluto TV, Shudder, Tubi

While Kevin Feige teased that Multiverse of Madness would make Evil Dead II fans happy, it all started here. Raimi was only twenty when he directed the horror classic that kickstarted an entire franchise still going strong today. It introduced a much meeker Ash (Bruce Campbell), who accompanied his sister, girlfriend, and friends to a cabin in the woods. All went well until they accidentally awoke demonic forces. The Deadites and Ash have come a long way since, but the gory mean streak and clever camerawork blazed the path for all involved.

Army of Darkness – HBO Max

Plucky anti-hero Ash Williams finally got to leave the cabin, transported to 1300 AD to battle the Kandarian forces once more and find his way home. Armed with a bigger budget, Raimi further embraced comedy and channeled Jason and the ArgonautsThe Three StoogesConan the Barbarian, and the work of Ray Harryhausen for his epic horror-comedy. It makes for an absolute blast, with Ash slinging zingers while dispatching demons in gruesome fashion. Considering this sequel drops its protagonist in an alternate reality, it makes for an ideal pairing with Multiverse of Madness.
