‘Don’t Worry Darling’ – Olivia Wilde Teases Her Florence Pugh Thriller at CinemaCon

Olivia Wilde (Booksmart) directed and also stars in the psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling for New Line Cinema, which is coming to theaters on September 23, 2022.

During WB’s presentation at CinemaCon tonight, Wilde teased Don’t Worry Darling while also showing off some brand new footage that was exclusive for those in attendance.

For starters, Wilde says the Florence Pugh-starring Don’t Worry Darling is her “love letter to movies that push the boundaries of our imagination.” Wilde also notes that she knew the movie would “live or die” based on Pugh’s performance – we’re putting our money on “live.”

As for points of comparison, Wilde says Don’t Worry Darling is inspired by films including The Matrix, Inception and The Truman Show, which should pique your interest.

Jeff Sneider describes the CinemaCon footage, “The trailer introduces themes of gaslighting as Florence digs into the truth about her idyllic community.”

Here’s the logline for Don’t Worry Darling:

“A 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.”

Harry Styles, Chris Pine, KiKi Layne and Gemma Chan also star.

Shane and Carey Van Dyke (The Silence) wrote the original version of the script, with Katie Silberman reportedly doing a complete rewrite for Wilde’s film.
