Dark Fantasy Game ‘I, The Inquisitor’ Delves Into Cruel Holy Justice [Trailer]

We all like a dark fantasy adventure now and then, and Polish developer The Dust has one lined up for you in I, The Inquisitor. Based on the bestselling books by Jacek Piekara, I, The Inquisitor is currently being developed for the PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.

Likened to The Sinking City or A Plague Tale: Innocence but set in a dark Witcher-style renaissance era of the 1500s, I, The Inquisitor is understandably heavy: In this world, Christ did not die on the cross. Instead, he broke free from his crucifixion and unleashed bloody vengeance on those who did not believe in him. Centuries have passed, and now an army of zealot Inquisitors brutally enforce the faith of this blood-hungry church that has taken hold in Europe.

You play as one such Inquisitor in service of The Holy Office – Mordimer Madderdin. Madderdin is sent to the despondent town of Konigstein, tasked with dealing with the various crimes and transgressions of the common folk, all while dealing with an ancient evil that is trying to take root in the town. Players will use their sleuthing skills to uncover clues, secrets and suspects. As a good Inquisitor, you’ll be using cunning or threats to get the answers you need. You’ll also be making the difficult moral judgments to decide the fates of those under your investigation.

Featuring a dark and gritty story  with multiple branching story choices, I, The Inquisitor will feature plenty of swordplay, but also Madderdin’s divine ability to enter the mysterious Unworld, where he can discover the deeper secrets that suspects hide. The Unworld is also home to a dark force that will do everything to destroy you for stepping foot into its realm.

And for those with a streak of sadism, the game will feature “persuasive interrogations”, where you are given free reign to use more questionable methods and tools to get suspects to reveal “the truth”.
