Artist Jed Henry‘s “Ukiyo-e Heroes” series is one of the more unique pop culture art projects we’ve come across, with Henry imagining iconic characters in the classic Ukiyo-e style.
As explained by Wikipedia, “Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art which flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties; kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers; scenes from history and folk tales; travel scenes and landscapes; flora and fauna; and erotica.”
The term itself translates as “picture[s] of the floating world.”
Henry’s “Ukiyo-e Heroes” pieces are available as 12″x17″ giclée prints, and he’s lent the style to properties including Alien, Mortal Kombat, Godzilla, The Last of Us, and Death Note.
Prints can be yours for just $40 over in Jed Henry’s online shop. Each piece features “archival pigments on acid-free handmade Japanese paper,” and they come signed by Henry.
