Presented by Broke Horror Fan (that’s me!), Good Boy is now available on fully functional VHS from Witter Entertainment.
Director Ben Leonberg makes his feature debut with his own dog, Indy, in the lead role for a haunted house movie told from a canine’s perspective.
The film arrives on VHS with two variants: a standard slipcase for $30, and a book box edition featuring alternate artwork, a gatefold cover, and a blue tape — limited to 150 — for $45.
Each tape includes exclusive introductions by Leonberg & Indy and actor Larry Fessenden, plus a making-of featurette after the film.
For optimal VHS viewing, the film has been cropped from its original aspect ratio to 4:3 full frame. It is officially licensed from Shudder and RLJE Films and approved by Leonberg.
In Good Boy, a loyal dog moves to a rural family home with his owner, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. As dark entities threaten his human companion, the brave pup must fight to protect the one he loves most.
Shane Jensen and Arielle Friedman round out the cast. Leonberg and Alex Cannon co-wrote the script.
Filmed over the course of three years for $70,000, Good Boy had a $2.2 million opening weekend last year and went on to earn $8.8 million worldwide.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Leonberg crafts a thoughtful, unnerving, and heartrending portrayal of how utterly terrifying it can be for a dog when his whole world is upended and he’s unable to understand why.”
