‘Insidious’ Producer Steven Schneider Boards Jessica Rothe Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Imposters’

Veteran genre producer Steven Schneider (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) has joined Imposters, Variety has learned.

Schneider will serve as executive producer on the film via Spooky Pictures (Late Night with the Devil, undertone), which he co-founded in 2020 with Roy Lee.

Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) and Charlie Barnett (“Russian Doll”) star in Imposters as a grieving couple whose baby boy is taken. The desperate mother learns of a way to bring him back. However, her husband begins to suspect that what she returned with isn’t their son.

Writer-director Caleb Phillips makes his feature debut on the sci-fi mystery thriller, which premiered at SXSW last month.

“When I came across Imposters at SXSW this year, the project’s international potential was immediately evident – its genre-bending storyline, anchored by stellar performances, make it a relentlessly gripping experience that is already captivating horror fans.” Schneider said.

“It’s a privilege to work with the hugely talented Caleb Phillips on his first of what will surely be many thrilling features, reinforcing our continued commitment to backing emerging talent – and I look forward to helping this exhilarating project reach new heights.”

Yul Vazquez, Bates Wilder, Luisina Quarleri, Thomas Parobek, Ian Lyons, Taylor Karin, Lee Bennett, and Declan Bennett round out the cast.

Joe Bandelli (Hell House LLC franchise) produces for Marylous’ Boys alongside Thomas Bond & Sara Seligman of Broken Pig Productions.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Imposters is a confident debut, one that keeps you guessing with its mystery setup and shifty protagonists.”

Imposters does not yet have distribution, but between its SXSW buzz and the addition of Schneider to the already enticing package, the film will likely find a home soon.

Blue Finch Films is handling worldwide sales.
