As the yuletide hour nears, a small-town sheriff finds out that the ghosts of the past do not always stay silent in Night of the Missing, which is now streaming on SCREAMBOX.
From award-winning filmmaker Samuel Gonzalez Jr. (The Retaliators) and the producers of The Gallows, Night of the Missing is a four-part holiday anthology that could best be described as a twisted take on “A Christmas Carol.”
“On a stormy Christmas Eve, a secretive sheriff gets a visit from a mysterious woman who recounts a series of bizarre stories involving missing persons. As her stories begin to unfold, the depraved deeds of the sleepy town find themselves coming to life; conjuring vibrations of a disturbing telephone call, a mysterious ice cream man, a missing friend, and broken promises with dire repercussions. As the disturbing tales continue to unravel, the most terrifying revelation may be that the monster behind them is much closer than anyone thinks.”
Featuring a cast led by horror vets Bill Moseley (House of 1000 Corpses, Night of the Living Dead) and Jenna Kanell (Renfield, Terrifier), the film also stars Gigi Gustin, Meredith Thomas, Sheila Ball, Justin Miles and Stephon “Swerve” Strickland.
Night of the Missing can also be rented and purchased on VOD platforms now.
This week’s biggest new release (literally) is Toho’s Godzilla Minus One, which will officially be unleashed in US theaters on Friday. But first, the Godzilla Minus One Early Access Fan Event is TONIGHT (November 29), giving you the chance to see it two days early!
The first Japanese-produced Godzilla film since Shin Godzilla in 2016, Godzilla Minus One first brought the King of the Monsters back to theaters in Japan on November 3.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for Toho’s latest: “In postwar Japan, a new terror rises; Godzilla. Will the devastated people be able to survive… let alone fight back?”
Takashi Yamazaki (Lupin III: The First) directed the new movie, which will be the 30th live action film in Toho’s long-running kaiju franchise. Watch the final trailer below.
From RLJE Films and Shudder, the Christmas slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife hit theaters in limited release earlier this month, slashing into nearly $1 million at the box office.
It’s a Wonderful Knife is now coming home for Christmas, with the film exclusively streaming on Shudder December 1. It’ll be available on Shudder in the US, CA, UKI, and ANZ.
The Christmas slasher comes from writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls). Kennedy recently wrote on Twitter, “Thanks to all my fellow Weirdos for seeing and enjoying and spreading some It’s a Wonderful Knife cheer this opening weekend. The movie is for you and all us freaks and queers and losers and loners.”
The story is set in idyllic Angel Falls. A year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers’ life is less than wonderful — but when she wishes she’d never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse. Now the killer is back, and she must team up with the town misfit to identify the killer and get back to her own reality.
It’s a Wonderful Knife stars Jane Widdop (“Yellowjackets”) in the lead role of ‘Winnie Carruthers’, with Joel McHale (“Community”) set to play Winnie’s father ‘David’ and Justin Long (Barbarian) playing the town’s patron ‘Mr Waters’. Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), Jess McLeod (One of Us Is Lying) and Cassandra Naud (Influencer) also star.
After an acclaimed festival run beginning with winning the 2023 SXSW Grand Jury Award earlier this year, writer/director Paris Zarcilla’s debut feature Raging Grace is coming to select theaters on Friday, December 1. The film will be available On Demand December 8.
Raging Grace follows “Joy, an undocumented Filipino immigrant who is struggling to do the best she can for her daughter when she secures the perfect job: taking care of an extremely wealthy but terminal old man. The new position pays well and guarantees a roof over their heads. But very soon, Joy and her daughter Grace start to realize everything is not as it seems. Something is festering beneath the surface, threatening all they have worked for.”
Raging Grace was written and directed by Paris Zarcilla (Pommel, The Century Egg), produced by Chi Thai (The Promise, Little Miss Sumo) and stars Max Eigenmann (Verdict) and David Hayman (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Finding Your Feet).
When it comes to horror, there’s always something dangerous lurking in the woods. In the upcoming New Zealand psychological thriller Loop Track, the threat could be an anxious man on the verge of a breakdown, or something far more monstrous. Find out when Dark Sky Films brings this one to VOD and Digital outlets on Friday, December 1.
“Ian, a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown, disappears from the world and takes a hike in the New Zealand wilderness. His efforts to avoid other hikers are futile and he is drawn into their worlds, but he can never shake the feeling that they are being stalked by someone, or something, sinister. As Ian’s paranoia grows, the other hikers become wary of him. He’s cagey about his past, he never sleeps, and his anxiety leads him to make concerning claims. Far from society, Ian starts to question his own sanity before plunging into a bloody battle for survival.”
The New Zealand horror film was written and directed by Thomas Sainsbury. Sainsbury also stars alongside Hayden J. Weal and Tawanda Manyimo.
Jamie Kennedy (Scream) returns to the horror genre in Don’t Suck, a vampire movie directed by RJ Collins (American Sicario) that heads to On Demand/Digital on Friday.
Kennedy plays Pete, “a washed-up veteran comedian who must find an opener for his upcoming comedy tour. Pete is introduced to Ethan (Matt Rife) by his girlfriend Stephanie (Ellen Hollman), who convinces him to take this young comedian on tour as his opener.
“Things start to take a wacky turn when Pete finds out Ethan is a Vampire, and their tour goes from cheap motels, morning DJs, dive bars, and dinners to opening up for the Russell Peters special in Vegas. All while Ethan and Pete attempt to bridge the gap between being real and exploiting his vampirism.”
Russell Peters, Lauren Compton, Jimmie Walker, Jimmy Shubert, and Scott ‘Carrot Top’ Thompson also star in Don’t Suck. The script was written by Rick D’Elia.
Drafthouse Films recently acquired supernatural horror movie Everyone Will Burn, and the film will start a theatrical run at Alamo Drafthouse theaters in NYC, LA, and Austin on December 1st, followed by a wider digital release on December 4.
The Spanish horror movie premiered at the Sitges Film Festival and racked up multiple festival wins around the world. Directed by David Hebrero, the film follows Lucía, a strange little girl who just might be connected to a local legend about stopping an impending apocalypse.
The cast for the film includes Macarena Gómez, Rodolfo Sancho, Ana Milán, Rubén Ochandiano, Germán Torres, Ella Kweku, and Raquel Lobelos, with Fernando Cayo and Saturnino García, and introducing Sofía García.
It’s not a horror movie but don’t forget that John Woo is back this week with his new action-thriller Silent Night, which will unleash bloody violence in theaters on December 1.
From Capstone Studios and Thunder Road Films, Silent Night stars Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) alongside Scott Mescudi (X), Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.
In Silent Night, written by Robert Archer Lynn (Prisoner, Deadbox), “A grieving father enacts his long-awaited revenge against a ruthless gang on Christmas Eve.”
On the TV front, Netflix’s Korean monster series “Sweet Home” returns for Season 2 on Friday, December 1, set in a world of creatures attempting to thwart humanity’s survival.
In Season 2, “The main characters depart from the Green Home, the site of their previous monster battles, and are compelled to venture into the outside world. Survivors have gathered at what is left of the stadium and built a community, but they still cannot let their guard down. The evolving storyline promises heightened anticipation as the characters confront new dangers in different environments, where they have to fight against both external monsters and their own monstrous desires.”
Song Kang returns as Hyun-su, alongside Lee Jin-wuk, Lee Si-young, Ko Min-si, Jung Jin-young, Yoo Oh-seong, Oh Jung-se, Kim Moo-yeol, and Park Gyu-young.

And finally, new documentary Thriller 40 arrives to celebrate Michael Jackson‘s Thriller four decades after its release. The doc will examine the groundbreaking album, including the iconic music video for the Halloween staple. Thriller 40 debuts December 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Showtime and will stream on Paramount+ (for Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers).
The upcoming documentary will feature “never-before-seen footage and candid interviews,” chronicling “the point in Jackson’s career that launched the singer into mega-stardom and created a pop culture phenomenon that is woven through the culture and continues to influence the worlds of music, television, dance, fashion and more to this day.”
Mary J. Blige, will.i.am, Mark Ronson, Misty Copeland, Maxwell, Usher, “Thriller” music video director John Landis and more are all interviewed for the new documentary, which also includes never-before-seen footage from the making of the classic video.
