‘Turbo Kid’ Video Game Kickstarter Begins, Smashes Initial Funding Goal

Outerminds’ Kickstarter for their adaptation of Anouk WhissellFrançois Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell‘s, Turbo Kid launched yesterday after some delay, and already the project has made bank. The campaign was asking for $50,000 CAD, but had smashed that with $59,713 in 10 hours. The campaign still has 29 days to go.

Obviously, there are stretch goals for this one, including the ability at $160K to play as Laurence Leboeuf’s character, Apple. There are also plenty of backer rewards, including physical copies of the game for the Nintendo Switch, a physical copy of the Turbo Kid comic book, a copy of the soundtrack on cassette (and digital), and the standard “name in the credits” reward.

As for the game itself, it’s styled as a Metroidvania, and takes place after the conclusion of the film, where The Kid travels the wasteland in search of hope. You’ve also got to take care of “scoundrels and creeps” along the way to survive. If you’re a fan of Mega Man X, Super Metroid or Out of This World, this is the game for you.

Currently, the game is being developed for PC and Nintendo Switch.
