‘SPAZ’ Documents the Rise and Fall of CGI Pioneer Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams [Trailer]

Finally, a documentary that focuses on one of the most important people in the entire history of Hollywood – Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams, a pioneer in computer animation who brought the dinosaurs to life in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park and the T-1000 in James Cameron’s groundbreaking Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Today we have the trailer for SPAZ, the Scott Leberecht-directed doc that premieres at the forthcoming SXSW Film Festival, taking place next weekend in Austin, Texas.

His digital dinosaurs of Jurassic Park transformed Hollywood in 1993, but an appetite for anarchy and reckless disregard for authority may have cost him the recognition he deserved. The trailer teases the rise and fall of this talented visionary.

“This intimate account examines his life story and events surrounding the historical moment when his digital dinosaurs walked onto the silver screen in Jurassic Park. Steve and a chorus of expert witnesses recount a dramatic tale of rebellion and revolution at Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic in the early 1990s– a time when creating realistic creatures with a computer was considered impossible. As the industry changes at breakneck speed, Steve’s longing for acknowledgment triggers a humble reckoning with his chaotic past.”
