Zack Snyder (Justice League, Army of the Dead) is enjoying his creative freedom over at Netflix, and that relationship will continue with sci-fi movie Rebel Moon, soon on the way.
Deadline reports today that Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Prisoners of the Ghostland) has been set to star in the film, taking on the leading role in Snyder’s latest project.
In addition to directing, Snyder is also co-writing the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). The film has been referred to as “an epic sci-fi fantasy.”
Here’s the plot synopsis…
“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.”
“This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan,” Zack Snyder recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”
In fact, THR recently noted, the story was originally a Star Wars pitch!
