The hotly-anticipated Saw X arrives in theaters on September 29, and Bloody Disgusting is excited to announce that Saw X – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is also on the way.
Featuring original music by Saw mainstay Charlie Clouser, Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack digitally on September 29, and we’ve got the first single for you today.
You can listen to “Blood Board” below, available Digitally on September 22!
Clouser, who built upon his already iconic reputation as a musician (Nine Inch Nails), and producer (Prong, White Zombie, Snoop Dogg), as the composer of the first Saw films, returns with a crushing musical backdrop to the latest installment of the extreme franchise.
Lakeshore previews, “The score is unusually multi-faceted with Clouser providing warmer, more benevolent themes corresponding with John Kramer’s journey from his past.”
Clouser tells us, “My score for Saw X goes to new extremes that I haven’t hit before in the franchise. There’s warm sunrises, hopeful emotions, and cautious optimism, followed by some truly bonkers music for the most insane trap scenes ever. Mournful cello melodies, emotional solo vocals, and soothing chord progressions accompany John Kramer’s journey towards salvation. But then things go horribly wrong, and atonal orchestral torture, chunky metal guitars, and crashing percussion take the lead.
“In the final act a massive tonal shift occurs, and the relentless mayhem gives way to soaring themes that build towards a truly epic conclusion. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Saw movie without a big twist ending, and this film ends on a completely different note than any of the others.”
In Saw X, John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is back. The new installment explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.
Charlie Clouser is a multi-instrumentalist composer, musician, producer, programmer and remix artist who has worked with some of the seminal recording artists of the last twenty years. With his concentration now on music for visual media, Charlie continues to impress and amaze with his singular work.
Charlie came into prominence as a member of Nine Inch Nails from 1994-2000. Before joining the band as keyboardist/programmer, he’d already built a following with his extreme synth work and remixes for Prong, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, and others. His dense layers of chopped up beats and grinding synthbass lines were instrumental in defining the sound of White Zombie’s double-platinum 1994 breakthrough album Astrocreep: 2000 led to numerous collaborations with frontman Rob Zombie.
In the studio with Nine Inch Nails, Charlie co-wrote high-profile songs like The Perfect Drug (from the gold soundtrack to David Lynch’s Lost Highway), and The Way Out Is Through (from The Fragile, Spin Magazine’s 1999 Album of the Year). His intricate and singular programming style was an integral part of the band’s unique sonic vision. Along the way, he has continued to apply his talents on albums and remixes for artists like David Bowie, Snoop Dogg, Rammstein, Jamiroquai, Deftones, Killing Joke, Esthero, and Meat Beat Manifesto.
Charlie’s first film scoring effort, Saw, became an instant cult classic. His scores for the subsequent Saw series continue to define the films. Raw, grinding, propulsive, punctuated by incredible layers of sound and energy, they are classics in the horror genre. Charlie has also scored such films as Resident Evil: Extinction, Sony’s Pictures’ The Stepfather, Unhuman and The Collection.
In the field of television, Charlie has scored several TV shows, including the FOX event series Wayward Pines (starring Matt Dillon, Carla Gugino and Toby Jones), CBS’s Numb3rs, NBC’s Las Vegas and the Syfy event series Childhood’s End. He also co-wrote the main title theme for FX’s American Horror Story. In the video game space, he has scored the Activision video game Singularity, as well as licensing select music from his Saw score to Konami for Saw: II. His latest Saw installment, Saw X will be released September 29, 2023.
