Garth Marenghi Returns from the Darkness with ‘Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome’ Novel

Author, dream weaver, visionary, plus actor Garth Marenghi (Matthew Holness) is back! This time in novel form with the upcoming release of Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome.

TerrorTome will release in hardback, e-book, and audiobook from Hopper Studio on November 10, 2022.

Garth humorously describes his novel as:

“Less a book, more a petrifying mind-realm, or ‘psych-zone’, if you will (and you must), TerrorTome charts the paranormal adventures of fictional horror paperback author Nick Steen. Rejected by both Heaven and Hell for his blasphemous visions, Nick is a fallen angel now living in purgative limbo (his hometown of Stalkford), chained (literally) to a cursed typewriter, in a flat which also forms a part-cosmic portal to unexplored demonic realms. When Nick’s imagination escapes, leaking out of his own head, Stalkford is overrun with the fictional horrors of his own books, their incarnate denizens hellbent on destroying Stalkford, outer Stalkford and possibly sightly further. Can Nick (plus Roz, his frequently incorrect female editor) hunt down these horrors of Nick’s tortured imaginata before they destroy Stalkford and beyond (like I just explained)?”

“These three dark tales (which incidentally form a mere chunk of a much larger, denser horror epic I have been penning intermittently over the last three decades and which should absolutely have been published in its entirety, despite the ‘environmental costs’) take Nick and Roz into the dark and unimaginable terrors of a horror writer’s unleashed imagination (thus becoming imaginable and therefore doubly horrific). Will they survive Type Face, Lord of the Prolix, avascular necrosis-obsessed serial killer Nelson Strain, or even Nick’s dreaded throppleganger, The Dark Third? (The answer is yes, they do, but at some cost to their physical form.)”

Garth Marenghi’s TerrorTome will read like my classic oeuvre of paperback horrors crossed with the X-Files, Faustian myth and bits of Manimal. Plus the cover is embossed with genuine foil at my insistence and at your expense. So curl up with my new book, pilgrim, and die…”

The creation of writer, comedian and director Holness, Garth Marenghi is best known for the cult Channel 4 comedy series Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.

In the series, horror author Garth Marenghi gives viewers a look at previously unaired ‘80s sci-horror horror series “Darkplace” in this fictional show within a show that lampoons the era of television. The cast gives insight into episodes with wacky plotlines, from telekinetic doctors on a rampage to men giving birth to giant eyeballs, while parodying the low budget production, sound design, special effects, outdated social norms, and more. What We Do in the Shadows Matthew Berry and Prevenge’s Alice Low co-star in this six-episode series that sadly never received a second season. It’s a complete blast.

Holness is the author of many short stories for horror anthologies, and has written and directed several films, including the horror feature Possum.
