‘Cursed: The Craven Cut’ – Never-Before-Seen Photos Surface of Skeet Ulrich and More!

One of the most famous alternate horror movie cuts that hasn’t yet surfaced is the “Craven Cut” of werewolf movie Cursed, which may or may not even exist. To be clear, there’s no completed “Craven Cut” of Cursed sitting somewhere on a shelf waiting for release, that much is true, but it’s also clear there is footage floating around out there that we’ve never seen.

As Ryan Larson explained here on BD last year, “Originally written in 2000, execs at Dimension claimed [Cursed] was going to reinvent the werewolf genre. It would be half a decade and four reshoots later before Cursed finally made its way to screens in the spring of 2005.”

“Now, what was written, what was shot, and what we’ve seen are all three very different things. While lots of these elements were thought for a long time to be lost to the sands of time, as we march on, little bits and pieces continue to find the light of day,” Larson added.

For starters, Skeet Ulrich (Scream) was originally in Wes Craven’s Cursed, with Craven’s original vision also featuring practical effects work from the legendary Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London). Baker, alas, was eventually moved away from the project, and various rewrites and reshoots ended up almost completely altering Craven’s original plans.

Meagan Navarro explains in a different article, “The original plot centered around a trio of characters brought together by a car accident-turned-werewolf attack. Those leads were Ellie Hudson (Christina Ricci), Vince Winston (Skeet Ulrich), and Jimmy Myers (Jesse Eisenberg), and several notable cast members eventually were cut or dropped due to the lengthy hiatus.”

Again, you can read more about that whole troubled history here.

As we recently told you, Scream Factory is bringing Cursed to Blu-ray this coming April, but alas, it doesn’t seem they’ve been able to track down this elusive “Craven Cut” footage.

Scream Factory told us a few weeks back, “Please Note: The Unrated Cut is not the original Craven Cut of the film featuring different actors in the roles. We tried.”

So what does exist of the so-called “Craven Cut”? Well, our friends over at Hello Sidney just unearthed a gallery of images from some of those alternate scenes, showing off everything from a badass practical werewolf to a look at Skeet Ulrich’s excised character!

Head over to Hello Sidney for a new look at Cursed‘s “Craven Cut” footage!

Who knows, maybe someday the footage will be unleashed…
