Blizzard Already Planning Two Expansions for ‘Diablo IV’

Blizzard is unleashing hell today with the long-awaited release of Diablo IV. And according to a recent interview with Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson, their post-launch plans in place for Diablo IV already include expansions.

In a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Games podcast (thanks, 80 Level), Fergusson revealed that the studio has two expansions currently in development for Diablo IV. “Right now as I sit here we’re about to launch the main game, we’re finishing up season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re kicking off expansion two…all that’s happening right now,” said Fergusson.

While the announcement of an expansion is no surprise (given that the previous two games in the series eventually received an expansion months after the initial launch), the reveal that Diablo IV would be getting a second expansion is surprising. Then again, Fergusson does mention in the interview that Diablo IV‘s live-service format allows for more content to be released over time when compared to how it was handled with Diablo III.

Diablo IV is out today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net. And if you’re still on the fence, check out Reyna’s take on Diablo IV.
