Bryce Dallas Howard Directing a New Take on ’80s Sci-fi Movie ‘Flight of the Navigator’ for Disney+

In the wake of directing episodes of “The Mandalorian,” Bryce Dallas Howard will next find herself in the director’s chair for a reboot of the 1986 sci-fi adventure, Flight of the Navigator!

THR reports that the new take on the ’80s movie is a Disney+ project. The site reminds, “The original movie told of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later at the exact same age and with no memories of what happened. When NASA officials spot a connection between the boy and a recovered UFO and try to ensnare him, the kid attempts to unravel the intergalactic mystery while trying to reunite with his family.”

The new movie, THR notes, will put a female-led twist on the classic.

The 1986 movie was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus. Joey Cramer starred as David Freeman, the movie’s main character.
