A desperate junkie unknowingly offers up his mother as a twisted test subject in the trailer for A Blind Bargain, a 1970-set reimagining of the lost 1922 silent horror film starring Lon Chaney.
Crispin Glover (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), Jake Horowitz (The Vast of Night), Lucy Loken (“Teen Wolf”), Annalisa Cochrane (“Cobra Kai”), Amy Wright (The Amityville Horror), Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs), Jed Rowen (Blind), and Rob Mayes (John Dies at the End) star.
Home from the Vietnam war, struggling with addiction and living with his mother, Dominic Fontaine (Horowitz) has already hit rock bottom when mom (Wright) delivers an ultimatum.
Desperate to settle a dangerous debt with a volatile drug dealer (Mayes), Dominic accepts an unexpected offer from a charming, young nurse at his clinic. The deal seems simple — and lucrative — but comes with a hidden cost.
Without fully understanding the consequences, Dominic signs his mother up as a patient of the enigmatic Dr. Gruder (Glover), a morally ambiguous physician whose radical research is seeking to reverse the aging process.
At first, the arrangement seems promising — his mother thrives and he sets aside his nagging guilt. However, he soon realizes that he failed to read the fine print and that every bargain has a price. Things at the Gruder Institute are far more sinister than he ever imagined.
The stylized psychological thriller is directed by Paul Bunnell (The Ghastly Love of Johnny X) from a script he co-wrote with John Falotico. Bunnell also produces alongside Bing Bailey, with Falotico serving as executive producer.
Shot on Kodak film, A Blind Bargain will open at the Angelika Film Center in New York City on April 24 and the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles on May 8, with additional cities to be announced. Select screenings will be in 35mm.
