Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Abu Dhabi have acquired rights to the found footage horror anthology franchise V/H/S from Studio71, Variety has learned.
The deal to jointly produce future titles in the series marks a further step in the six-year partnership between the Los Angeles-based genre label and the United Arab Emirates-based studio, which has yielded Late Night with the Devil, The Plague, and the upcoming Hokum.
Spooky Pictures is headed by genre veterans Steven Schneider (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) and Roy Lee (Weapons, IT).
“It’s a natural evolution,” said Image Nation chief content officer Ben Ross. “This is a piece of IP that we all were very fond of that became available, and we’re very excited about it because one of our mantras is we like to work with emerging talent.”
“Horror anthologies are generally difficult to mount,” Schneider added. “The fact that the V/H/S brand and franchise has not just persevered, but thrived — and continues to grow in popularity because of the consistent level of quality control — that was an amazing opportunity for us to get into.”
“The shorts created for the V/H/S franchise can be like a proof-of-concept that could potentially turn these shorts into feature films,” noted Lee.
V/H/S launched in 2012, followed by 2013’s V/H/S/2, 2014’s V/H/S: Viral, 2021’s V/H/S/94, 2022’s V/H/S/99, 2023’s V/H/S/85, 2024’s V/H/S/Beyond, and 2025’s V/H/S/Halloween.
