Screenwriter Ian McDonald, whose Black List spec script Woman of the Hour sold to Netflix in a bidding war, has sold another project to the streamer.
The untitled thriller feature is set in the world of cults, Deadline reports today, though plot details are under wraps.
Academy Award nominees Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) and John Gatins (Flight) will produce under their deal with Netflix.
While that’s certainly not much to go on at this stage, it’s worth reiterating that McDonald’s script for Woman of the Hour sold for around $11 million after premiering at TIFF to critical buzz. The serial killer thriller, which marked the feature directorial debut for star Anna Kendrick, delivered a gripping fictionalized take on serial killer Rodney Alcala and his infamous appearance on The Dating Game during his years-long murder spree in the ’70s.
That McDonald is venturing back into thriller territory with his Untitled Thriller script, backed by an Oscar-nominated producing pair for their writing on Straight Outta Compton and Flight, respectively, makes this project one to watch.
Stay tuned.
