‘Werewolf by Night’: Marvel Announces Cast for Werewolf-Themed Halloween Special for Disney+!

Disney+ is howling at the moon as they continue to get into the Halloween spirit for 2022. In addition to the hotly-anticipated Hocus Pocus sequel, the streamer has begun casting its werewolf series based on the Marvel character Werewolf by Night!

It was confirmed today that Gael Garcia Bernal (pictured above in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old) is playing a character who is capable of transforming into a werewolf while retaining human intellects, reports Deadline.

Here’s the kicker. They add that Laura Donnelly (pictured below in “The Nevers”, Dredd) has also joined the cast, speculating that she could potentially be Nina Price, who becomes Vampire by Night!

“Price is the niece of the character Jack Russell/Werewolf by Night and a vampire/werewolf hybrid. She carried the Lycan gene and was further changed after being bitten by a vampire.”

The special is due to begin production in coming months and follows Marvel’s Disney Plus shows ‘WandaVision”, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, “Loki” and “Hawkeye”.

Wikipedia explains, “Jack Russell is a descendant of the mystically-altered offshoot of humans known as Lycanthropes. During the night of the full moon and the two nights surrounding it he is forced to mutate into a werewolf, a large, powerful form which is a hybrid of human and wolf, and loses his human intellect. Through a series of events, he is also capable of mutating voluntarily outside of the full moon, at which time he remains in control.”

Notably, Issue #32 of the Werewolf by Night comic series features the first appearance from Moon Knight, a character Marvel will soon be bringing to the screen in his own Disney+ series.
