[Video] Fans Take to ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ to Create Machinima Film ‘Friday The 13th: ReAwakening’

Obviously, everyone’s frustrated with ongoing saga that is the Friday The 13th rights issue between Victor Miller and Sean Cunningham. John recently did a nice recap of the events, which still have yet to see a definitive resolution. As always, it’s the fans coming to the rescue with their own films. We had Here Comes The Night: Part 2 released last week, and for those who lean towards video games and machinima films, Sudden Strike Productions has released their own fan film, Friday The 13th: ReAwakening.

Created using Grand Theft Auto V (because why not?), the film was written by TWoods 826 and Noru122, and features a fully-voiced cast with a whack of mods to bring Jason and Crystal Lake into GTA V. In addition the soundtrack features various rock songs alongside Harry Manfredini’s score from multiple F13 films. The team stresses that the film is non-profit, with no infringement of any type intended (because Rockstar’s parent company Take 2 seems to have a problem with that, lately).

The story for the film sees a group of out-of-towners purchase Camp Crystal Lake. In doing so, ol’ hockey puss is awakened, and proceeds to stalk and slay the new owners. This story is specifically set within an alternate timeline, and retcons every film after Part 4. Clocking in at just over an hour, the love and effort put into the film is pretty evident.
