Vanessa and Elwood Preview the “Horrors of Blumhouse” at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood! [Images]

It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year… Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights!

Opening night is upon us and Bloody Disgusting’s Vanessa Decker & Elwood Quincy Walker got an early sneak preview of two of this year’s most anticipated houses: The Horrors of Blumhouse & Universal Monsters: Legends Collide

In this year’s edition of The Horrors of Blumhouse guests are welcomed into Blumhouse Video, an abandoned haunted VHS rental store presenting the body-swapping slashterpiece Freaky & the terrifying summer blockbuster The Black Phone.

The Freaky section of the house is fantastic & throws you right in the middle of the film’s opening scene where the Blissfield Butcher brutally slaughters a group of teens one by one.

This house does a great job at recreating a lot of Freaky’s creatively gruesome kills, featuring the iconic shattering wine bottle throat kill & the skull-crushing toilet seat from what is one of the funniest jokes in the movie.

But the highlight of the entire house, hands down, is the woodshop teacher’s gory & spectacular death where he is sawed in half with a spinning table saw blade splitting him & his bloody insides open!

Throughout the rest of the house, guests follow the bloodbath to several other locations from the movie including the halls of Blissfield High (Go Beavers!), Millie’s bedroom, & The Butcher’s lair.

Which is even complete with an easter egg of legendary special FX artist Tony Gardner’s corpse head in a toilet! What more could you possibly ask for?? Maybe Vince Vaughn actually playing The Butcher at Horror Nights?

In the grand finale of Freaky, after stumbling upon a group of decapitated & mutilated jocks who totally deserved it, The Butcher bursts out with her chainsaw & sends you running towards everybody’s favorite Grabber…

In The Black Phone portion of The Horrors of Blumhouse, guests are lured past missing child posters & head deeper down towards the grungy basement where The Grabber keeps his naughty boys…

The Black Phone section has some great scares utilizing each of The Grabber’s interchangeable devil masks, a dog puppet effect similar to the werewolf used in American Werewolf In London, & an ending scare sequence of The Grabber grabbin’!

Universal Monsters: Legends Collide makes horror history as Dracula, The Mummy, & The Wolf Man are all together for the first time ever! In this reimagining of classic Universal Monsters, the mummy has been transported across the Nile to “Alucard Trading Co.”, where his tomb now sits in an impressive Raiders of the Lost Ark-like storage room with towering wooden crates & ancient Egyptian artifacts that are actually screen used props from The Mummy.

Venturing deeper into the house guests will come face to face with a werewolf in mid-transformation, a gothic cemetery setting, & animatronic mummies all set to an original score by Slash!

The Horrors of Blumhouse are coming to Halloween Horror Nights, with a new house announced for this year that’s inspired by both slasher Freaky and this year’s The Black Phone!

This year’s frightening Halloween Horror Nights event begins at Universal Orlando Resort on September 2 and at Universal Studios Hollywood on September 8, 2022.

“The Horrors of Blumhouse” will transport guests into an alternate dimension where the scares are real and the stakes are life or death. In The Black Phone, which hits theatres June 24, “The Grabber” is a demented magician best known for his sinister trick of making people disappear – permanently. Guests will find themselves trapped in his “fun” house where the sound of ghostly voices whisper hints on how to escape, but guests must tread carefully to outwit and outrun “The Grabber’s” twisted magic.

Freaky will challenge guests to outrun serial killer “The Butcher” who has switched bodies with a high school girl after being cursed by The La Dola Dagger, an ancient Aztec blade. Guests will learn firsthand that looks can be deceiving as they encounter the sweet-looking teen who is actually “The Butcher” – and she is determined to hunt for their next victims.

The countdown to the opening of Halloween Horror Nights on Thursday, September 8, begins as all tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood’s terrifying event are now on sale. Tickets purchased online or at the Universal Studios Hollywood front gate provide guests with early event admission and access to select houses, beginning at 6pm each night of Halloween Horror Nights (subject to change).
