Universal Orlando’s Monsters Cafe Has Permanently Closed

My personal favorite hang out spot in Universal Orlando, the popular Monsters Cafe is shutting its doors for good, the Universal Studios theme park has officially announced today.

For the past 20 years, the Monsters Cafe has been serving up food in a classic monsters-themed restaurant, loaded with props and memorabilia paying tribute to Universal’s legendary monster movie history. It has long been THE place to eat for horror fans, immersing you in themed eating areas that looked like they were plucked right out of Universal’s horror classics.

Another beloved aspect of the cafe was the kiosk outside the restaurant, which featured massive statues of Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and the Creature dishing out tasty treats.

Universal Orlando announced today, “After more than 20 years of serving dreadfully-delicious quick-service menu offerings, Monsters Cafe in Universal Studios Florida permanently closed in the spring of 2022 to make way for a new dining experience.”

Orlando Informer notes, “Monsters Cafe opened its doors in May 1998. Over the past twenty years, the restaurant has provided guests with a retro and immersive environment to enjoy food items that range from light refreshments to full-blown pulled BBQ pork sandwiches and everything in-between.

“Monsters Cafe embraced the vegan/vegetarian movement early, and in recent years The Mummy jackfruit sandwich and the Creepy Spice Roasted Cauliflower have been classic hits.”

At this time, there’s no official word from Universal Orlando about what will be taking over the iconic location, only that the restaurant itself is being permanently shut down.
