The genre just received multiple nominations for Golden Globes, for starters, with films including Sinners, Frankenstein, and Weapons in the mix for major awards. Perhaps it’s no big surprise that all three movies were also among the most popular movies on IMDb throughout the year.
The Internet Movie Database just released their own “Best of 2025,” which is loaded with staff picks for favorites movies and television shows of the year. But we’re most interested in the rundown of the most popular movies and shows of 2025 on the IMDb platform, meaning the films and shows that IMDb users were checking up on the most throughout the year.
IMDb explains, “Here are the 10 most popular movies/shows released in 2025 that ranked highest on the IMDbPro MOVIEmeter chart throughout the year. MOVIEmeter rankings are based on the actual page views of more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide.”
‘Sinners’
Ryan Coogler’s vampire epic Sinners, Guillermo del Toro’s classic horror adaptation Frankenstein, and Zach Cregger’s box office hit Weapons all made the movie list, while “The Last of Us,” “Wednesday” and “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” made the television series list.

Another list that IMDb included in their “Best of 2025” roundup is the Most Popular Stars of 2025, which is topped by “The Last of Us” actress Isabela Merced. In addition to joining the HBO series for its second season, Merced also recently appeared in Alien: Romulus, Superman, and “Peacemaker,” and she’ll next be seen in a psychosexual horror movie titled Psyche.
“Alien: Earth” breakout star Sydney Chandler was the seventh most popular Hollywood star of 2025 on IMDb, and the good news is that we’ll be seeing much more of Chandler’s character Wendy in the upcoming second season of FX’s Alien television series.
