‘The Pinkerton’ – Jason Bateman Set to Direct Supernatural Western Revenge Movie

Almost three years ago, J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot acquired the supernatural revenge thriller spec script The Pinkerton penned by Daniel Casey (10 Cloverfield Lane, Kin). Now, it finally has a director attached.

Deadline reports that Jason Bateman (The Gift, “The Outsider”) is set to direct the “supernatural revenge-western hybrid.”

Plot details remain under wraps at present, but the title is derived from the historical “private security guard and detective agency established in the U.S. by Scotsman Allan Pinkerton in 1850. Pinkerton became famous when he claimed to have foiled a plot to assassinate president-elect Abraham Lincoln, who later hired Pinkerton agents for his personal security during the Civil War.”

The Pinkerton marks the first film project to be produced for Bad Robot after Warner Bros signed a deal with the production company. We expect that it’ll remain shrouded in mystery throughout production. Bateman previously helmed the dramedy Bad Words, his feature debut, and two episodes of HBO’s “The Outsider,” based on Stephen King’s novel.

Bateman will also serve as executive producer alongside Michael Costigan. Bad Robot’s Abrams and Hannah Minghella are the producers.

Stay tuned for more details on this western revenge tale as they arrive.
