The darkest – and most financially successful! – chapter in The Conjuring Universe continues in The Nun II this Halloween season, and the official teaser trailer has arrived.
Valak returns in The Nun II from director Michael Chaves (Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), and you can watch the suspenseful teaser below.
Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia franchise) and Katelyn Rose Downey (Clean Sweep) have joined the cast of the James Wan-produced sequel, which is filming now.
Taissa Farmiga will be back as Sister Irene, with Bonnie Aarons again playing the demonic nun known as Valak. Storm Reid (“Euphoria”) will be leading the sequel’s cast.
The Nun II will arrive in theaters on September 8, 2023.
Here’s the first The Nun II plot synopsis: “1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN.”
The first film ended with the Sister Irene and Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) escaping, only Maurice was now possessed by Valak.
Chaves recently told EW. “Maurice made his way to France and he’s working at this boarding school as kind of a handyman,” says Chaves. “He has a friendship and a flirtation with one of the teachers there, and you can see him starting to mature, so that’s where our characters start out. But we know from the first film that there’s something terrible inside of him, that Valak escaped within him, and events pull Irene back on this collision course with her old friend.”
Back in 2018, The Nun scared up a whopping $365 million at the worldwide box office, all but ensuring that we hadn’t seen the last of the demonic nun known as Valak.
Screenplay by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing (Eli, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) and Akela Cooper (M3GAN, Malignant), with a story by Cooper.
