‘The Mean One’ – Whoville Horror Movie Starring ‘Terrifier 2’ Actor David Howard Thornton Sets VOD Release

The Mean One, a highly unofficial Christmas horror movie that turns the Grinch into a slasher movie maniac, received a limited theatrical release last holiday season. THR reports today that the holiday slasher finally set a date for home release.

Steven LaMorte‘s outrageous slasher parody will finally come home to VOD on October 3 from DeskPop Entertainment.

In the audacious new parody, The Mean One (Terrifier 2‘s David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but when the Mean One launches a new reign of terror that threatens to destroy Christmas, Cindy finds a bold new purpose – trapping and killing the monster.

Directed by LaMorte with a script by Flip and Finn Kobler, The Mean One also stars Chase Mullins, John Bigham, Erik Baker, Flip Kobler, and Amy Schumacher.

A co-production between A Sleight of Hand Productions, Amy Rose Productions, and Kali Pictures, the feature is Produced by Schumacher, LaMorte, and Martine Melloul. Executive Producers are Jordan Rosner, Gato Scatena, and Zach Stampone.

In his review for Bloody Disgusting, Alex DiVincenzo said, “More like a stocking stuffer than a grand gift, The Mean One would pair well with Jack Frost for a spirited double feature of tongue-in-cheek Christmas horror.”

If you’re hoping Thornton will channel his Art the Clown bloodlust here, DiVicenzo also warns, “Those hoping for a Terrifer-style ’80s throwback slasher are likely to be frustrated by The Mean One, as it plays more like a Syfy mockbuster of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In addition to the disappointment of off-screen kills and digital blood, it suffers from all the trappings of a low budget horror film: a generic plot populated with one-dimensional characters, limited production value, stilted action, and a score that sounds like stock music.”
