‘The Matrix’ – Danny Boyle Directing a Song & Dance Adaptation of the Movie for the Stage

Interesting news from Variety this afternoon, the site reporting that Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire) is headed into The Matrix. Boyle isn’t directing a movie, however, but rather a stage musical adaptation of the original sci-fi classic?!

The large-scale immersive performance experience is titled Free Your Mind, and Variety notes in their report that “the Warner Bros. Theater Ventures-licensed project is set to debut next October at Factory International, a new arts venue in Manchester, U.K.”

Here’s the official logline: “Combining the hip-hop choreography of hundreds of dancers with the latest immersive design, Free Your Mind will take audiences on a thrilling journey through The Matrix and into a new realm of possibilities.”

“This eye-opening production will stretch across the building’s ultra-flexible spaces, responding to them and harnessing the collective energy of the moment.”

The dance show’s music will be composed by Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, with Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy as the choreographer. Sabrina Mahfouz and artist Es Devlin are also on board.
