The ‘Gargoyles’ Sega Genesis Game Is Getting Remastered

With NECA handling Disney’s “Gargoyles” action figures, what about the video game side of things? Released on the Sega Genesis in 1995, Gargoyles was a treat to play, though it didn’t quite receive the same acclaim as other Disney games on the Genesis. Fear not, as for those who missed it the first time, Disney and Empty Clip Studios are giving us a second chance.

Announced at the D23 Expo, Gargoyles Remastered will be coming to “modern consoles” and PC. Details as to specific consoles were not part of the announcement, nor was a release date announced for the game. However, the game will feature updated visuals and controls.

Released in November 1995 for the Sega Genesis (a Super Nintendo version was planned but ultimately cancelled), Gargoyles loosely followed the plot of the show. The game sees Goliath on a mission to destroy the Eye of Odin, a magical talisman which can transform whomever possesses it. Meanwhile, Demona, the most recent owner of the Eye, seeks to foil Goliath.

Back in 2012, Chris Shrigley, the programmer for Gargoyles, released the source code for the Sega Genesis version, as well as the code for his prototype of the SNES version. You can find both on Chris’ website.
