‘The Exorcist’ Relaunch – Ellen Burstyn Suggests She Has Already Filmed Her Scenes

One of the next big horror franchises to get the reboot treatment is The Exorcist, with David Gordon Green (Halloween Ends) set to direct a brand new sequel to the original classic after he’s finished with the Halloween franchise. Universal and Blumhouse are behind the upcoming franchise relaunch, with plans to make an entire trilogy of new Exorcist sequel films.

Brought to our attention by @jandry_says over on Twitter this week, the legendary actress made a pretty interesting comment about the upcoming movie in a chat with Daily Blast Live back in February of this year. In fact, Burstyn indicated that she’s already filmed her scenes?!

I’ve already shot the new version… nothing weird happened [on set]. There was a lot of weirdness on the first one,” Burstyn commented about her return to the franchise, indicating that at the very least, her part in the movie has already been filmed in secret.

Mind you, this of course doesn’t mean the entire movie has been shot, and Bloody Disgusting has heard nothing of the sort. But the first film in the trilogy will be released theatrically on October 13, 2023, last we heard, so it’s safe to say that Gordon Green will be getting behind the camera real soon. For now, it’s likely that only Burstyn’s contributions are in the can.

Stay tuned for more on The Exorcist reboot trilogy as we learn it.

The plot details we were provided with this past summer detail, “Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he tracks down Ms. Burstyn’s character.”

The Exorcist franchise hasn’t been on the big screen since the 2005 release of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist, an alternate version of the previous year’s Exorcist: The Beginning. Those films came in the wake of 1977’s The Exorcist II: The Heretic and 1990’s The Exorcist III.

More recently, “The Exorcist” became a short-lived television series at Fox, which was surprisingly excellent and cleverly took place in the same world as the original classic.
