‘The Deliverance’ – Omar Epps and More Join Netflix Exorcism Movie from Director Lee Daniels

We had learned earlier this year that Lee Daniels (Precious, The Butler) was making an untitled horror movie for Netflix, and now that project has officially been titled The Deliverance.

Variety reports today that Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence and Anthony B. Jenkins have joined the cast of The Deliverance, being described as an “exorcism thriller.”

As previously announced, Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Aunjanue Ellis, Caleb McLaughlin and Tasha Smith are also part of the upcoming movie’s cast.

Variety notes, “Day plays Ebony, a mother who fights for her life, her faith, and the souls of her children after discovering their new home is haunted by a demonic presence.”

The Deliverance is based on a true story, and in addition to directing Lee Daniels also wrote the script with David Coggeshall, Elijah Bynum and Thomas Westfall.

Netflix paid a reported $65 million for the rights to this one in a hot bidding war.
