The highest grossing horror movie of the year, The Conjuring: Last Rites debuts on Digital at home beginning October 7 before hitting Steelboook, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 25 via Warner Bros, and we’ve got a sneak peek at the bonus features.
In this exclusive clip from the upcoming home video release, director Michael Chaves explains how making the movie made him a true believer in the paranormal, while producer James Wan explains why the Smurl haunting was the perfect story to close out the Conjuring Universe.
Chaves says, “I was totally a skeptic… until this movie. Talking to the Smurls, and the conviction of their story… 100% I’m a believer after hearing their story.” Wan adds, “It’s really interesting that the Smurl case is the one that we’re using as the final story. Because the Smurl case is actually the first story that I was familiar with in terms of the Warrens. It was a very important piece of the Warrens’ legacy. And we felt this story would be the perfect one to finish with.”

The Conjuring: Last Rites Special Features package for home video includes…
- Last Rites: An Era Ends featurette (8:45)
- The Conjuring: Crafting Scares featurette (8:40)
- Michael Chaves: Believer featurette (7:04)
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return in the new movie for one last case as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, based on the real-life Smurl Family Haunting.
Michael Chaves (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II) directs from a script by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, The Nun II) and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It).
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “The Conjuring: Last Rites is suitably nightmarish where it counts, bringing memorable chills that linger and spilling more blood than usual in a Conjuring film. But it’s more affecting for the way it wears its heart on its sleeves, with Wilson and Farmiga giving their final bow as Ed and Lorraine Warren their all.”
