The Chiodo Brothers Talk ‘Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game’ in New Interview

It’s still unbelievable that Killer Klowns From Outer Space is being made into a video game, which is due out next year. And for those of you craving more information about the game (which is all of us, really), the official site for Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game has been busy with dropping tidbits about the title, most recently answering the question of just how we got here in the first place with The Chiodo Brothers themselves.

Entitled “How Does A Film Become A Game?”, the update involves the game’s designer, Randy Greenback (of Friday the 13th: The Game fame) sitting down with the “OG’s of the Klown universe”, The Chiodo Brothers, to discuss not only the game, but also a bit of history on Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

“With the film, the idea was to play it straight, the comedy comes from contrast,” explains Steven Chiodo. “Between the sincerity of the drama and the absurdity of the kills…and the nemesis. It’s the context of taking something so absurd – seriously – it’s the juxtaposition of that. That, I think, is what’s funny.”

In regards to passing on the history of the Killer Klowns film and sharing their vision for the game, Steven Chiodo is “appreciative” of Terravision Games and Good Shepherd Entertainment’s efforts to transition what worked with the film into the video game. “I mean, it’s a pleasure to be included at that level of the creation of a game. I was kind of honored. Really. I mean, you say you’re honored by working with us. We’re honored to work with Good Shepherd Entertainment and Terravision. And we really appreciate being included. We don’t want it to be misinterpreted.”

In regards to the future, once the game is out in the wild, The Chiodo Brothers hope that if the game is successful, more Klowns projects will get a chance to live. “You know that there are other Klown opportunities, other Klown stories to be told, that will spawn new video games, and other new experiences,” says Edward Chiodo.

“There will be games, VR, whatever, there’s a lot to mine from. I think the hard-core gamers will dig the game, the things you guys brought to it, the new gameplay, and certainly the cosmetic veneer. But then the Klowns fans, who may not be gamers, will be drawn to it and find out what fun it is to be in that world, be a Klown, be a human…whatever, and it’s a blast having that hands-on.”

Charles Chiodo hopes that the game would be a “reawakening” of the franchise. “Maybe it will satisfy [people’s] yearning…they’ve been asking us…so thank God that there’s something now that we can say, ‘Hey, it’s coming.’ Finally, we’re part of something. It’s been a long time coming, but you know, it’s here, so it’ll invigorate. I think Killer Klowns will be, because of the game, and because of the new licensing and merchandising going on, bigger than ever. So we’re excited.”

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game will arrive for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2023.
