“The Boroughs” would be a nice place to live if it wasn’t for the pesky monsters.
The cast and crew of Netflix’s mysterious sci-fi series take you behind the scenes in the new featurette, which also includes some new footage.
Created by showrunners Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews (“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”), all eight episodes stream this Thursday, May 21.
“In the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives.
But for new arrival Sam Cooper, paradise feels more like a prison. Everything changes when a terrifying nighttime encounter reveals that something monstrous is stalking the manicured cul-de-sacs.
Dismissed by the powers that be as just another confused old man, Sam finds unlikely allies in a band of neighborhood misfits: a sharp-witted former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a cynical music manager, and a brilliant doctor running out of options.
Overlooked and underestimated, these unlikely heroes must band together to unravel the dark truth at the heart of The Boroughs before their time runs out.”
Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman, Carlos Miranda, Jena Malone, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg star.
The cast also features Ed Begley Jr., Dee Wallace, Eric Edelstein, Rafael Casal, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Beth Bailey, Karan Soni, and Jane Kaczmarek.
Ben Taylor (“Sex Education”) directs the first two episodes, with Augustine Frizzell (“Euphoria”) and Kyle Patrick Alvarez (The Stanford Prison Experiment) helming the others.
“Stranger Things” creators The Duffer Brothers executive produce with Hilary Leavitt for Upside Down Pictures, alongside Addiss, Matthews, and Taylor.
“So many of the actors of this age, even legends, aren’t given an opportunity to shine like action heroes. They’re often cast as grandparents,” Ross Duffer told Netflix. “It was definitely a pinch me moment when we went to that first table read, because these are all legends and they’re still at the top of their game, and they just love being there. You just saw the joy.”
