‘The Blair Witch Project’ Star Michael C. Williams Shares Never-Before-Seen Making-of Notes

The Blair Witch Project actor Michael C. Williams has left his corner of the basement to share rare insights and anecdotes about the making of the 1999 horror classic.

The actor will be posting videos on Instagram or TikTok throughout the month of October detailing his experience on the production, complete with never-before-seen character notes.

“I dug up my character notes from the shoot back in ’97,” Williams tells Bloody Disgusting. “The directors had us use a GPS and left 35mm film canisters at ‘waypoints’ throughout the locations of our shoot. Inside were character notes for our three characters that we couldn’t share with the other actors.”

He continues, “It created conflict in the story. The directors would watch our footage overnight while we slept in the tent in order to see how the story and our relationships were developing. As such, our notes might reflect where they wanted us to go emotionally.”

In the inaugural video below, Williams reflects on the audition process and reads his handwritten notes from August 1997.

Williams stars in The Blair Witch Project alongside Heather Donahue and Joshua Leonard as a trio of film students who head into the woods of Maryland to shoot a documentary about a local legend.

Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez co-wrote and co-directed the genre-defining found footage film.

A new Blair Witch Project movie is currently in development from Lionsgate and Blumhouse.
